Sustainability is Integrated into Our Corporate Governance
Accountability and transparency aren't just sustainability goals; they are among Verso's founding principles and are integral to achieving our corporate vision to be a company with passion that is respected and trusted by all. Verso’s senior management team develops corporate policy and directs strategy in all areas of corporate sustainability, from fiber procurement and product development to environmental, health and safety matters and social responsibility.
Our vice president of environmental, health, safety and sustainability is responsible for overseeing sustainability performance across the company, as well as for communicating with stakeholders (including customers, government and non-governmental organizations) and for reporting sustainability progress. Our operational management is responsible for day-to-day sustainability performance and compliance at the mill level. We also have employees who are subject matter experts in the areas of EHS, fiber procurement, energy, product stewardship, social responsibility and accountability/ transparency. These experts work cross-functionally to review and make recommendations for improvement on sustainability policies and practices, track performance in their respective areas and contribute data and content to the company’s annual Sustainability Report.
Better Practices, Better Planet 2020
Verso supports the goals outlined in the American Forest & Paper Association's Better Practices, Better Planet 2020 initiative: increasing recovery of paper for recycling, increasing energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable forestry practices, while continuing to strive for the safest workplaces possible for employees.
